- MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:
- FABRIC – STRETCH KNIT TYPE FABRICS /KNITS or lace
- 1.5M BY 1.5M
- SCISSOR
- YOUR MIRROR TO CHECK THE LENGTH YOU WANT YOUR SHAWL TO BE IN FRONT AND AT BACK
INSTRUCTIONS: Visual pictures in slide show.
Fold the fabric in half, the selvedge edges together then fold over the one cutting side over to meet the other cut side
NECKLINE: on the double folded fabric folds cut opening for neckline (about 8cm long, first just cut an slit opening, once you have tried it on you can decide to cut it more open, for a deeper neckline or to wear off the shoulder look)
ARMHOLES: Measure about 25m from the centre fold line and cut open a slit approximately 10cm
LENGTH: pull on the shawl, stand infront of your mirror then decide how long you want the back length and front length hems, pin, where you want the length to be for front and back. Lay the fabric on the fold selvedge edges together then cut front hem seperately and do the same for the back.
HEM: the type of fabric used in the photo (bonbon synthetic spandex knit stretch), does not fray or run, so it is not necessary to do a rolled hem, but this is your design choice how you want to finish off your neckline & armhole openings as well as you hemlines. You could overlock openings & hemlines then do a 1cm hem or add a border of lace, you decide.
